THE Out-door work of the farm will begin in earnest this month, and the farmer who understands his business will improve every favorable day to forward the early spring work. ments made when it is too cold to prepare the land for planting.

Experience proves that in southern and middle New England, potatoes planted the last of this month, as a rule, do better than if planted later; but if not

planted until May, the crop may be advanced by sprouting the potatoes in the house or in a hotbed. The sprouts are stronger and no doubt better if the potatoes are sprouted in a warm place where some light comes to them, and if very early potatoes are desired, they should not be cut, but planted whole, after all but three

or four eyes have been destroyed by cutting out with a pointed knife. When early pease are planted, if a little ground bone be scattered in the row before dropping the seed, it will increase the growth materially. As soon as the soil will work well,

He's true to God who's true to man; wherever wrong is done, To the humblest and the weakest, 'neath the all-beholding sun, That wrong is also done to us; and they are slaves most base Whose love of right is for themselves, and not for all their race.

Farmer's Calendar.

Do not let the tent-caterpillars eat all the leaves off your apple trees; but be up early in the morning, with a light, long pole having a cloth wound around the small end which should be kept saturated with kerosene, and drawn through the nest when the worms are small.

This is a busy month on the farm; especially to those who in the winter and early spring neglect to do everything possible to forward the work of plantingtime. If the farm implements are out of order it will cause serious delays; but if everything is in good working order the farmer will be able to drive business

rather than to let his business

drive him.

Do not turn the farm stock out to pasture before the grass gets well started; better feed them at the barn a week longer, than to have them roaming over bare pastures and every day losing flesh. It is very poor policy to plant more land than can be well manured, thoroughly prepared, and well cared for.

How is the strawberry bed? Have you set one for fruit another year? If not, do not let the first week in this month pass without doing so; if you cannot Set an acre to produce fruit for market, set at least one hundred

plants for home use. Sprinkle

hellebore on the currant bushes.
