"Applied Innovation: A Handbook" outlines how a start-up CEO can take an innovation from concept to repeat sales including everything from the strategic elements of what innovation is to business models and intellectual property to how one sets up an advisory board etc. This work focuses on offering a road map for building a company from the ground up but can be applied to existing firms as well. The premise is that anyone can learn and apply the concepts of innovation in any part of their business and personal life if they know what is required.

Dr. Di Biase is the president of Premier Insights, LLC, an innovation practices consultancy, a member of Cornerstone Angels, a Chicago-based angel investor group, served as the Chief Executive Officer of Laser Application Technologies, a high technology company delivering technology to the food service industry. As a Vistage Chair, he currently mentors CEOs of technology-based start-ups.Previously, Dr. Di Biase served as the Chief Scientific Officer of Elevance Renewable Sciences, a high technology specialty chemicals company, and as the Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer for the Research Development and Engineering Department at Diversey, Inc. In these roles he was responsible for technology innovation, research, development efforts, and technical resource management. He is a 1974 graduate of St. John Fisher College, with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, and earned a doctorate degree in chemistry from Pennsylvania State University in 1978. Prior to joining Diversey in 2004, Dr. Di Biase was Vice-President of Emulsified Products at The Lubrizol Corporation located in Wickliffe, Ohio. Dr. Di Biase joined Lubrizol in 1978 as a chemist, and in 1981 became a group leader in Chemical Synthesis. In 1987 he became Manager of Technology, Administration, and Planning, and in 1989 he took the role as Manager of Industrial Technology. From 1990-1993, he served in the position of Director of Strategic Research. In 1993 he was elected Vice-President of Research and Development. In 2001, Dr. Di Biase became Vice-President Emulsified Products where he managed new business development activities.Dr. Di Biase is also a past member of the Board of Trustees for Mt. Union College and the Industrial Research Institute and sits on the Science Advisory Board for The Pennsylvania State University. He has served as chairman of The Lubrizol Foundation Scholarship Committee, Chairman of the Northeastern Ohio Section of the American Chemical Society, Board member of the Cleveland Area Research Directors (CARD) and in The Boy Scouts of America where he served in a variety of posts. Dr. Di Biase has been honored by The Pennsylvania State University College of Science with its 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award. He is also an adjunct professor at Benedictine University and guest lecturer on entrepreneurship and innovation at the Kellogg Innovation Network at Northwestern University.
