ing, Hagar, and Averill, the Convention was called to order, and on calling the roll, it was found that a sufficient number of Clergy and Lay Delegates were present to constitute a quorum, the following persons answering to their names, viz.:

The Chair declared the Convention duly organized, and announced the following Standing Committees:

Rev. Messrs. Wakefield and Lusk, and Mr. Isaac L. Beach.

ON CANONS.

Rev. Thos. Mills Martin and Hon. Geo. A. Bicknell and Ballard Smith.

The next business in order being the election of a Secretary, on motion of Rev. Mr. Martin, Rev. W. H. Carter was re-elected Secretary, who announced the appointment of Rev. M. V. Averill as his Assistant.

On motion of Rev. Mr. Runcie, Rev. E. J. Purdy was invited to a seat in the Convention.

Rev. Mr. Spalding offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That Dr. Thomas Runcie, of Trinity Church, Vanderburgh Co., be received as a Lay Delegate from that Church.

On motion, his case was referred to the Committee on Credentials.

On motion of Rev. Mr. Martin, the Convention took a recess until 3 o'clock, P. M.

The Annual Address of the Senior Bishop was then read by the Assistant Bishop, after which the Assistant Bishop proceeded to deliver his Annual Address.

On motion of Rev. Mr. Wakefield it was,

Resolved, That so much of the Assistant Bishop's Address as relates to Diocesan Missions be referred to a committee of three, to report to the Convention to-morrow morning.

The Chair appointed as such committee, Rev. Messrs. Wakefield, Pulford, and Dr. E. Newland.

On motion of Hon. Ballard Smith, it was

Resolved, That so much of the Assistant Bishop's Address as relates to the sale of the Cook County Lands, and the Episcopal residence, be referred to the Trustees of the Diocese, to report to-morrow.

Gen. Love offered the following resolution, which was unanimously adopted:

Resolved, That this Convention tender to Bishop Upfold its sincere regret at the continued disability which withholds his presence from its session, and the earnest prayer of this body for his restoration to health.

On motion of Rev. Mr. Spalding, it was

Resolved, That so much of the Assistant Bishop's Address as relates to Education, be referred to a committee of three, to report to-morrow.

The Chair appointed as such committee, Rev. H. W. Spalding Wm. Lusk, Jr., and Mr. S. S. Early. Mr. Early was excused at his own request, and Mr. Isaac L. Beach was appointed in his place. On motion, Hon. Ballard Smith and Hon. George A. Bicknell were added to this committee.

On motion of Rev. Mr. Martin, it was

Resolved, That so much of the address of the Assistant Bishop as relates to the permanency of the Pastorate, be referred to a committee of three to report to-morrow morning.

Rev. T. M. Martin, Rev. L. W. Russ, and Mr. H. B. Payne were appointed as such committee.

The Committee on Unfinished Business presented the following

Beport:

The Committee on Unfinished Business respectfully report that they have examined the Journal of the last Diocesan Convention, and find no business unfinished on the record.

Rev. J. P. T. Ingraham offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Secretary be instructed to have a sufficient number of copies of the Assistant Bishop's Address at once printed, that every Parish may have one for immediate reading, by its l'astor, instead of a Sermon.

This resolution was made the order of the day for 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon.

The Convention then adjourned until 9 o'clock to-morrow morning.

WEDNESDAY EVENING.

Prayers were read by Rev. Messrs. Runcie, Wakefield and Hollis, and the sermon preached by Rev. S. D. Pulford.
