Journal of the Convention.

LAFAYETTE, Wednesday Morning,}

June 4, 1862.

The Twenty-fifth Annual Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Indiana, assembled in St. John's Church, Lafayette, at 10 o'clock a. M.

Morning Prayer was said to the Creed by the Rev. Humphrey Hollis, of St. Matthew's Church, Worthington, the Rev. Louis P. Tschiffely, of Plymouth, reading the Lessons, and from the Creed by the Rev. James Runcie, Rector of Christ Church, Madison.

The Ante-Communion Service was said by the Rt. Rev. George Upfold, D. D., LL. D., the Bishop of the Diocese.

The Convention Sermon was preached by the Rev. Elias Birdsall, Rector of St. Paul's Church, Evansville, from Numbers xiv., 9.

The Holy Communion was administered by the Bishop of the Diocese, the Rev. L. W. Russ and the Rev. James Runcie assisting in the distribution of the elements.

The Convention was called to order by the Rt. Rev., the President. The Secretary of the Convention read the names of the Clergy entitled to seats under the second section of Canon iv., when fourteen answered to their names and took their seats as members.

The Churches entitled to representation were then called over, and twelve Lay Delegates duly appointed, appeared and took their seats.

On motion of Rev. L. W. Russ, balloting was dispensed with in the election of Secretary.

And on motion, the Rev. Stephen H. Battin, Rector of Trinity Church, Fort Wayne, was chosen Secretary of the Convention.

The Rt. Rev., the President, declared the Convention organized for business and announced the following

On Canons-REV. MR. STRINGFELLOW, Rev. C. A. FOSTER, HON. G. A. BICKNELL.

On Admission of New Parishes-REV. MR. BIRDSALL, REV. MR. ADDERLY, AND MR. LIPPINCOTT.

On motion of Rev. Mr. Runcie,

Resolved, That Clergymen of the Protestant Episcopal Church not entitled to seats in this Convention and candidates for orders who may be present, be invited to attend its sittings.

The Rev. John Austen Merrick, Ph. D. of the Diocese of Kentucky, the Rev. Anthony Ten Broeck, of the Diocese of Ohio, the Rev. A. E. Bishop, of Western New York, took seats in accordance with the Resolution.

The Secretary announced that he bad appointed the Rev. Louis P. Tschiffely as his Assistant.

On motion of Rev. John B. Wakefield, the Convention took a recess until 3 o'clock P. M.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

WEDNESDAY, 3 o'clock P. M.

The Convention met and was called to order by the President.

The Rev. Mr. Battin proposed the following alteration to article viii. of the Constitution:

"The Clergy and Lay Delegates in Convention shall deliberate in one body, and the orders shall always vote separately; a majority in both orders shall be necessary to a decision."

Referred to the Committee on Canons.

The Committee on Credentials presented the following

The Committee on Credentials, to whom was referred the Certificates of Lay Delegates, having examined the same, report the following as entitled to seats in this Convention, being Delegates from the Parishes, viz:
