had the situation well in hand and unloading was completed by the truck driver and his swamper, both of whom were negros, and incidentally, we might add, two very scared colored boys. The balance of the load was consigned to the Seventh Street Market and the truck was followed by Dick and was unloaded in the same manner without further interference.

The Union representative with whom Dick talked upon his arrival was one C. C. Noley, and his reason for trying to stop the unloading was, according to his statement, that the owner of the truck was behind in his Union dues, but Dick had other ideas and he did not think that constituted a good reason why a Farmer's produce should be interfered with. It is apparent from all reports that Mr. C. C. Noley had made a big talk with some twenty-five or thirty bystanders what he was going to do, but the above is the answer.

Very truly yours,

FARMERS TRANSPORTATION ASSOCIATION,

Hayward Hotel, Room 304, Los Angeles, California.

DEAR DICK: I talked to Chester McNutt yesterday and he said that one of his drivers was stopped in Victorville, San Bernardino County, and was told that he could not load. This load was cement from the Southwest Portland Cement Company. This driver then showed them his union card, which expired some five months ago, and then they let him have the load and told him not to come back after another load unless he had the card paid up in full.

The Southwest Portland Cement Company was supposed to have made the same statement. In another case Mr. Obergfell, truck driver, went to Monmouth, which is in Kern Co. fifteen miles from Mojave. He went up to get a load of cement from the Monmouth Cement Company and they refused to give him this load and cement company also refused. He then returned to Mojave and tried to pick up a union driver to get this particular load and he could not do so, so consequently he returned home. A. O. May, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 467, San Bernardino, California, 384 D. Street, is supposed to be the tough egg, and he is the man that is going to see that the truck men do not pick any more loads unless they are union men. The above mentioned drivers are certified members of the Farmers Transportation Association. Mr. McNutt's driver left here last night, I told him that if he had to go back up there to get a load, to get in touch with you first.

Now Dick what I want to know who is going to take care of this matter in these counties, or whether you are going to take care of this yourself. It is necessary for us to have a prompt answer on this as the truck men are anxious to know who they can contact up there in case of trouble.

Yours very truly,

DEAR PETE: First I wish to thank you for your kind work regarding the L. A. County Ass'd Farmers-as to the cement deal-it is going to take some time to work out, a satisfactory set up with the Cement Company for as you know all of them are under one head and they seem to be afraid to make a move that the union does not approve of it.

If they say no cement to a driver that ends it as it stands now-Hugh and I are working on it & will write you the outcome soon.

Kind regards,

/s/ R. J. WATSON.
