previously to pulling down the old church, and was intended to refer all that had been done, and all that we hoped to do, to Him who had put it into the hearts of his people to erect a temple to his glory.
The object is now nearly accomplished, and the present building may afford encouragement to the ministers of religion, however humble the situation in the Church they fill. When the first sermon was preached, the Author had scarcely the tacit concurrence of some of those who have since been most active in the cause ; and it will be seen, by the accompanying list of Subscribers, that the noble and mighty have now come forward, whilst the inhabitants of Hanwell and the neighbourhood, to whom Providence has given the means, have, with few exceptions, liberally aided the committee in their endeavour “ to beautify the temple of the Lord their God.”
