bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore, by their fruits ye shall know them.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name ? and in thy name have cast out devils ? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you : depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock : and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat

that house; and it fell not : for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand : and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house ; and it fell : and great was the fall of it.

S. Matt. v. 1, 2, 348. vi, 1-34. vii. 1-27.

And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples.

Blessed be ye poor : for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are ye that hunger now : for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy : for behold, your reward is great in heaven : for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. But woe unto you that are rich ! for

have received your consolation. Woe unto you that are full ! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now ! for ye shall mourn and weep. Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well

of you! for so did their fathers to the false S. Luke vi. 20 – 26. prophets.

When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him ; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison. I tell thee, thou

rieth another, committeth adultery; and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

But I say unto you which hear, love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek, offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak, forbid not to take thy coat also. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods, ask them not again. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again ; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest : for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

No man, when he hath lighted a candle, put-
teth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel,
but on a candlestick, that they which come in
may see the light. The light of the body is
the eye: therefore when thine eye is single,
thy whole body also is full of light; but when
thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of dark-

Take heed, therefore, that the light
which is in thee be not darkness.
whole body therefore be full of light, having
no part dark, the whole shall be full of light;

as when the bright shining of a candle doth S. Luke xi. 33 – 36. give thee light.

Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than . raiment. Consider the ravens : for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn ; and God feedeth them. How

much more are ye better than the fowls ? And
which of you with taking thought can add to
his stature one cubit ? If ye then be not able
to do that thing which is least, why take ye
thought for the rest ? Consider the lilies how
they grow. They toil not, they spin not ;

say unto you,

that Solomon in all
his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
If then God so clothe the grass, which is to-

the oven ; how much more will He clothe you,

of little faith ?. And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after : and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the king. dom. Sell that ye have, and give alms : provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged : condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned :
