stern formalists who took up stones to stone her, "let him that is without sin first cast a stone;" and you may hear Him speak again to you in unreproachful and forgiving tones to "go and sin no more." O yes, the Bible is the same; the promises are the same; Jesus is the same, "the same yesterday, to-day, and for ever." The cross stands on Calvary still; the sufferer intercedes for the chief of sinners still. There's not a broken heart, however torn, and crushed, and mangled, which He will not bind and cure. Fly to Him, drunkard; fly to Him, libertine; fly to Him, Magdalene; and for even you He will find room in His heart and in His home and as He receives you graciously and loves you freely, He will cover all your sin and shame, and scars with the garment of His perfect righteousness. "Bring hither the best robe, and put it on her; and put a ring on her finger, and shoes on her feet; for this my daughter was dead, but is alive again; was lost, but is found."

HE sources out of which the manifold misfortunes rise, which are incident to mankind in connection with their worldly business, and their social and physical position, are about as numerous as those misfortunes themselves. But still there are few calamities which might not be forestalled, or if not entirely forestalled, at least greatly mitigated, by a little prudential forethought and promptitude of action. The reason why the crash often comes suddenly upon a man of business, is not because he could not see the coming crisis casting its shadow before, but because he stubbornly refused to look: Men do not like to look forward to disaster, especially if such an anticipation is likely to necessitate a curtailment of their transactions or a visible concession to the emergency. Pride and sullen desperation too often prevent people from bending downwards, like the reed to let the hurricane sweep over; and they stand sternly up against it in a vain defiance, like the fabled oak; the consequence is that, instead of leaping back and standing again erect when the panic has fled past, they fall helpless to the ground, prostrated by the power it was vain to resist.
