Thofe marked thus were not in the laft return for commons.

Joshua M'Donough was committedby Alderman Fleming for affaulting a Mr. Bergin in Bride's-alley, with an intent to rob him.

A feizure was made of a confiderable quantity of tobacco, on Rathmines road, on Sunday laft.

It appeared to be part of a cargo which had been landed on the preceding night at Killiney-bay. It was contained in five hackney carriages, which were hired that morning, as for a duel.

Yesterday morning the body of Mr. Ruffel, woollen-draper, of Skinner-row, was taken out of the river near the watering flip at Effex-streetHe had been miffing fince Thurfday night last.

21.] In the heavy gale, two boats, returning from a veffel lying near the Light house, bound for the Straits, to which they had carried provifion, were overfet, and the crews, confifting of fix men and a boy, must have been inevitably loft if not taken on board a large coafter then making for the river, at the hazard of life.

A very curious circumftance will happen in about eight years. When these countries adopted the Gregorian or New Style, in the year 1752, it was found neceffary to let eleven days elapfe, without having them reckoned in the Calendar; and even the holders of bills, promillary notes, &c. were obliged to make the fame allowance to their tenantry. The 1st of January, 1800, agreeably to this regulation, will not be reckoned in the Calendar. but the fecond be deemed the 1ft of the new year.

29.] In the important caufe, Sherborne verfus Napper, a verdict was 'yesterday given in favour of the latter. A bill of Exceptions was, however, prefented to the court, which will, perhaps, fubject this long-contested fuit to fome farther litiga

tion.

The Court of Exchequer has determined that the fubpena at the fuit of James Napper Tandy, Efq. against the Lord Lieutenant fhall be quashed. on the ground that the injury complained of was done in his capacity of Lord Lieutenant and Chief Executive Magiftrate of this kingdom, and not in his natural capacity.

The Court of commod Pleas has likewife quafhed the action brought against the Lord Chancellor by Mr. Tandy, on fimilar grounds.

The other actions brought by Mr. Tandy against the Right Hon. the Speaker of the houte of Commons, Attorney General, &c. are to ftand, but the declarations filed against them are to be filed de nova, first expunging therefrom certain words and paffages fuppofed to be offenfive and imprope to appear on the records of that Court.
