IN all the turning points of life we must try and get a good start for the race that is before us. To begin right is half towin the victory. We look back upon the past, upon hours, and days, and months, it may be, that are lost and gone beyond recall. It ought to inspire us with higher aims and loftier purposes, to lead us to greater effort and devotion to duty, and now is the time. We must infuse the true spirit into our work. It is the spirit, the motive, the purpose, that give dignity and character to the deed. Some men have greater energy, greater magnetic power, greater force of character than others, but these traits are to some extent matters of self-cultivation. They lie at the very bottom of all success in life. We must cultivate them on the farm and everywhere else. must put them into everything we do. They command success. Let us do our duty to ourselves, to our families, to the animals that minister to our wants; to the neighborhood, the town, and the state. We can then go rejoicing on our way, happy in the thought that we are fulfilling our destiny, and doing something to benefit mankind. Begin with season. this spirit, and we can assure you 20 W. a 20. IT is about time to spruce up and get ready for the spring work. There are a thousand little things to do that will be apt to bother and take time if they are put off. The tools may need mending. Look over ploughs, and spades, and hoes, and the whole kit of farming implements. Where's the lost tooth in the harrow? A little paint on the carts and wagons will make them last all the longer. Sometimes a gate will begin to sag, where a little fixing will straighten it up. Isn't there a board gone from the fence? Let these little matters go, and the whole place will soon have a look of decay and desolation. Take them in time, and there is the look of neatness and thrift- an air of comfort and competency that any farmer ought to be proud of. Put up the walls, have a sharp look at the woodpile, whitewash the barn, and clean up generally. Now is the best time to destroy the eggs of the caterpillar.
