in the hope that we ourselves shall be raised from death to everlasting life; therefore, we extol and magnify thy glorious name, evermore praising thee, and saying, Holy, holy, holy, JEHOVAH! GOD of the universe! heaven and earth are full of thy glory: glory be to thee, O GOD most high

¶ The minister, standing before the table, shall read as follows;

THE apostle Paul hath given the following account of the institution of the lord's supper in his first epistle to the Corinthians (xi. 23--26.)

66

THE lord Jesus, on the night when he was going to deliver himself up, took bread; and, when he had given thanks, brake it, and said-Take, eat; this is my body, which is given for you: do this in remembrance of ine.' In the same manner, also, he took the cup after supper: supper and said- This cup is the new covenant of my blood: this do in remembrance of me.' For, as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye make a declaration of the lord's death till he come."

Then

Then the minister shall read the following prayer.

o

ALMIGHTY GOD! our heavenly father! by whose gracious assistance, our lord Jesus Christ was, for our benefit, obedient even to the suffering death upon the cross; and did institute and command us to continue, a perpetual memorial of such his death until his coming again: hear us, we most humbly beseech thee, O GOD! and grant, that we may receive this bread and wine, in grateful remembrance of his death and sufferings; and of thy great mercy to mankind, in autho rizing him, thy chosen messenger, to turn us from darkness to light, from vice to virtue, from ignorance and error to the knowledge of thee, the only true GOD, in the knowledge of whom consisteth our hope and assurance of eternal life. Amen.

The minister shall first receive the communion in both kinds himself; and then proceed to deliver the same to the congregation. When be delivereth the bread, he shall say:

TAKE, and eat this bread,in remembrance of Christ.

And

And when be delivereth the cup, he shall say, TAKE, and drink this wine, in remembrance of Christ.

When all have communicated, the minister shall read as follows.

O GRACIOUS GOD! and heavenly father! we, thy servants, carnestly desire thee, through thy great goodness, mercifully to accept this our religious service of praise and thanksgiving; and humbly beseech thee to grant, that through thy mercy, and our own best endeavours to obey thy will, we may, agrecably to the gospel of Jesus Christ, obtain from thee the pardon of our sins, and everlasting life. Amen.

¶ Then shall be said by all present,

GLORY be to GOD in the highest heavens; and the peace of his good-will to men on carth. We praise thee, we worship thee, we give thanks to thee for the various manifestations of thy great goodness, O JEHOVAH our GOD heavenly king! father almighty!

We

We praise and thank thee, for sending thy messenger Jesus Christ, into the world, to declare the terms of our salvation. We praise and thank thee, for the instructions he hath given us in his gospel, for the example he hath set before us in the integrity of his life, and for his plain declarations of thy gracious acceptance of all thy servants, who shall sincerely and heartily endeavour to know and do thy will and commandments. We praise and thank thee, for the final evidence thou hast given us of the divine authority of his mission by raising him to life, after an ignominious death upon

the cross.

For thou only art wise, and holy, and good; thou only art GOD; thou only dost govern all things both in heaven and earth. Therefore, agreeably to the gospel of our lord Jesus Christ, praise, thanksgiving and adoration be given unto thee, and unto thee alone, now and for ever. Amen.

One

One of these valedictory forms of blessing to be used at the discretion of the minister.

MAY the GOD of all favour, who hath called us to his everlasting glory by Christ Jesus, make us perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle us. To him be glory and dominion for ever. Amen. 1 Pet. v. 10, II.

MAY JEHOVAH bless us and preserve us; may he be merciful unto us; and look favourably upon us, now and for evermore. Amen. Numb. vi. 24-26.
