say, 5 I cry unto thee, JEHOVAH ! "Thou art my confidence, and my portion in the land of the living." 6 Hearken to my cry, for I am exceedingly exhausted; deliver me from my pursuers, for they are too strong for me. 7 Bring me out of this confinement, that I may praise thy name; for the righteous will come about me, when thou art favourable unto me. PSALM CXLIII. HEAR my prayer, O JEHOVAH! hearken unto my supplication; and answer me for thy faithfulness' and thy righteousness' sake: 2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant, for in thy sight no man living can be justified, 3 When the enemy pursueth me, he smiteth my life to the ground; he maketh me dwell in darkness, like those who have been long dead : 4 When my spirit fainteth within me, mine heart is confounded in the midst of me: 5 I call to mind the days of ancient times; I contemplate all thy works; I meditate on all thy glorious deeds: 6 I spread forth mine hands unto thee; my soul thirsteth for thee, as a thirsty land for rain. 7 Hasten to help me, O JEHOVAH! for my spirit fainteth; hide not thy countenance from me, lest I become like those who go down to the pit. 8 Make me to hear speedily of thy mercy, for I trust in thee; instruct me in the way in which I should go, for I lift up my soul unto thee. 9 Deliver me from mine enemies, O JEHOVAH! for I flee unto thee for protec tion. 10 Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my GOD; let thy good spirit conduct me in a plain path. 11 For thy name's sake, O JEHOVAH ! preserve my life; for thy righteousness' sake, bring my soul out of distress. 12 In thy goodness cut off mine enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul; for I am thy servant. PSALM CXLIV. PRAISED be JEHOVAH, my rock, who teacheth mine hands in war, and my fingers in battle. 2 He is my protection and my stronghold, my fortress and my deliverance; my shield, under which I take refuge: he it is who reduceth nations unto me. 3 O JEHOVAH! what is man that thou takest notice of him; or the son of man that thou regardest him? 4 Man is like a breath that soon vanisheth; his days pass away like the eveningshadow. 5 O JEHOVAH! bow thy heavens and come down; touch the mountains, and they will smoke: 6 Flash forth thy lightning, and scatter them; shoot thine arrows, and discomfit them. 7 Stretch out thine hand from above, and deliver me; rescue me from the great waters: 8 From the hand of the sons of strangers; whose mouth speaketh vanity, and whose whose right-hand is a right-hand of falsehood. 9 O GOD! I will sing unto thee a new song; and sing praises unto thee, with a ten-stringed lute: 10 For it is thou, who givest unto kings, and deliverest David, thy servant, from the destroying sword. 11 Oh! rescue me from the hand of the sons of strangers; whose mouth speaketh vanity, and whose right-hand is a righthand of falsehood: 12 That our sons may be as young and thriving plants; and our daughters as the polished corner-pillars of the sanctuary: 13 That our store-houses may be full of the produce of the earth of every kind; that our sheep may bring forth in thousands and in ten thousands in our open pastures; and that our oxen may be strong for labour: 14 That there may be no hostile invasion; no leading into captivity; no complaint to be heard in our streets. 15 Happy are the people, who are in such a state! happy are the people, who have JEHOVAH for their God! PSALM CXLV. In the Morning prayer, p. 9. PSALM CXLVI. PRAISE JEHOVAH, O my soul! I will praise JEHOVAH as long as I live: I will sing praise unto my GOD, while I have a being. 2 Place not your trust in princes, neither in any of the sons of man, for in them there is no deliverance: 3 For when the life of a man departeth, he returneth to his earth; and, at the same time, all his designs come to nought. 4 Happy is the man who hath the God of Jacob for his aid; and whose reliance is upon JEHOVAH : 5 Who made the heavens and the earth; the sea, and all things that are therein : 6 Who keepeth his promise for ever; who executeth judgment for the oppressed, and giveth food to the hungry. 7 JEHOVAH releaseth the fettered captive; JEHOVAH оpeneth the eyes of the blind; 8 JEHOVAH |
