PSALM

PSALM CXXXVII.

By the rivers of Babylon we sat down ; we wept when we remembered Zion.

2 We hung our harps upon the willows which

3 When those who led us captive demanded of us a song, and those who had taken us prisoners required from us expressions of joy, -saying, “: Sing us one of the songs of Zion :"

4 We answered; “ How can we sing a song unto JEHOVAH in a foreign land ?”

5 If I forget thee, O JERUSALEM ! let my right-hand forget its skill in playing !

6 Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember thee ; if I do not prefer thee, o Jerusalem ! above my greatest joy.

7 Remember, o Jehovah! the sons of Edom, who said, in the day of Jerusalem, “Rase it, rase it, even to its foundation !"

8 O daughter of Babylon who art to be destroyed ! happy shall he be who shall do unto thee, what thou hast done unto us:

9 Happy the man, who shall seize, and dash thy little ones against the rock.

PSALM

PSALM CXXXVIII. I WILL praise thee, O JEHOVAH ! with my whole heart; in preference to other gods, I will praise thee.

2 I will prostrate myself in thine holy temple, and praise thy name, because of thy mercy and truth : for thou hast magnified thy name above every other name.

3 When I called upon thee, thou heardest me; and enduedst my soul with much strength.

4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O JEHOVAH ! when they shall hear the words of thy mouth :

5 And they shall sing concerning JEHOVAH; “ That great is the glory of JEHOVAH :

6 “ For, though JEHOVAH be exalted, yet he beholdeth the humble ; and bringeth evil on the proud from afar.”

7 Though I walk in the midst of distress, thou supportcst me ; thou stretchest forth thine hand against the fury of mine enemies, and thy right-hand saveth me.

8 JEHOVAH is a shield unto me : thy mercy, O JEHOVAH ! endureth for ever :

thou

thou never forsakest the work of thine hands.

PSALM CXXXIX.

O JEHOVAH ! thou hast thoroughly examined me, and knowest me; thou knowest my sitting down, and my rising up : thou understandest my thoughts from afar.

2 Thou surroundest my path and my bed ; and foreseest all my ways.

3 Before my speech is upon my tongue, thou, O JEHOVAH ! knowest the whole of it.

4 This wonde: ful knowledge is too high for me, I cannot attain unto it.

5 Lo! O JEHOVAH ! thou kyowest all the past and the future; thou didst form me, and didst place thine hand upon me.

6 Whither can I go from thy spirit ? and whither can I flee from thy presence?

7 If I climb the heavens, thou art there; if I make my bed in the grave, lo! thou art there also.

8 If I take my flight to the east ; or settle in the remotest part of the west :

9 Even there thine hand will still lead me, and thy right-hand will hold me.

10 Shall
