count, in order to make the Memoir more complete, it became necessary to introduce more of the matter noticed by Mr. Malone than was intended; but, in these instances, there are additional circumstances which do not appear in his

narrative.

WHEN Mr. Malone, the friend and executor of Sir Joshua Reynolds, undertook to publish his works, he considered it proper to gratify the publick, by affording such information respecting this great Artist, as he was able to give. Mr. Malone had long known him, and had borne in memory many communications and remarks occasionally made by him.
