REGIMENTAL RECORDS. The records of most regiments were ordered to be condensed, about thirty-five years ago, and a Mr. Cannon, of the AdjutantGeneral's Office, was employed in the task. Mr. Cannon, however, quotes no authorities for his statements. It is understood that he obtained much of his information at second-hand, and he has certainly made some errors. Valuable, therefore, as his work undoubtedly is (and published, as it was, by authority), and far more valuable as it would have been had he quoted authorities, I do not think it can fairly be quoted except in support of more original authorities.
