General Officers Retired by Sale, &c.-War Services.

Major General J. H. Brown served in the Crimean campaign from Dec. 1854, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and at the bombardments of 9th April, 6th and 17th June (Medal with Ca-p, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).

Major General F. R. Chesney served in the campaign that led to the capture of the Valley of the Upper Waikato in New Zealand in 1864, and was present at the assault and capture of Pukehinahina in the Bay of Plenty (Medal), Major General Dwyer served on the Staff of the late Marquis of Hastings, Commander in Chief in India, and was present during the Nepaul war, at the red action of the Province of Kimmoon, and the storming of Almorah. He served also throughout the Pindarree war on the Staff, when he had charge of the communications of the combined Armies.

Ma or General H. C. Faulkner was present with the Left Wing of the Queen's Royals during the latter part of the campaign of 1844-45 in the Southern Concan and Sawant Warree country.

Major General R. Gore served in the Crimean campaign from June 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastop (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).

Major General Owen served on the Quarter Master General's Staff with the Walcheren expedition in 1809; thence to Sicily, the Ionian Islands, and the eastern coast of Spain, where he was present at the affairs of Biar and Castella, size and blockade of Tarragona. In 1814 he went in charge as a Quarter Master General with the Troops to America, where he served on the expedition up the Penobscott and at Castine. Commanded the 2nd Battalion 73rd Regiment at the taking of Paris in 1315. In 1816 was employed in the Candian war in Ceylon.

Major General G. II. Vesey served in the Crimean campaign from March 1855, incinding the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).

War Services of Colonels Retired by Sale, Sc.

Colonel Agg served with the 51st Light Infantry throughout the Barinese war of 1852-53; was on board the E.I.C. tam-frigate Ferooz during the naval action and destruction of the enemy's stockades on the Rangoon river; served during the succeeding three days' operations in the vicinity (including the storming of the White House Realty, and at the storm and capture of Rangoon; also at the assault and capture of Bassein, 19th May, and rese of the night attack on Promé 8th Dec. 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).

Colonel W. B. Ainslie commanded the 93rd Highlanders throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 17th Aug. 1855, including the battles of Alma and Baklava, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, CB., Sardina and Turkish Medals, and 4th Class of the Medjidie).

Colonel Aitchison served with the 1st Batt gist Regt, at the Cape of Good Hope from Dec. 1845 to March 1847 and was engaged in a severe affair with the Caffirs on the 22nd May 1846, when his horse was shot under hin (Medal). *Colonel Aldworth served the Eastern campaign of 1854 up to the 8th Nov, with the 7th Fusiliers, inciding the 4's of Alma and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, and sorce of 6th Oct. (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal), Colonel Allan served with a Detachment 57th Regt. against the rebels in Canada in 1837. Commanded the 2nd Infantry Brigade in the Easoofzie campaign of 1856 (Medal with Clasp). Commanded the Troops on board the ship Ester Mon irch when he blew up and caught fire at Spithead on the 3rd June 1859, on which occasion a General erder was issued expressing the Commander in Chief's gratification at the conduct of Lt.Colonel Allan, and officers and men, and another conveying the Queen's approbation of the discipline and good order displayed under such

trying circumstances.

Coronel D. A. Baby served with the 98th Regt. in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal).

Lord Berwick served in the Burmese war in 1825 and 26, and was present in the actions of Prome and Tandwayn (Medal).

*Colonel Bewes served with the 45th Regt, the Kaffir war of 1846-47 (Medal). Served with the 73rd throughout Kofir war of 1850 53, and commanded the Regt. on the patrol under Colonel Eyre in Stocks county and in gerations in the Fish river Bush; also on the expedition beyond the Orange river including the battle of Berca; was mentioned in several despatches.

*Colonel Bridge served with the 58th Regt. throughout the whole of the operations in the North of New Zealand from April 1845 to Jan. 1847- He commanded the Regiment in the action at Mawie: planned and conducted a fight attack in boats up the Waikari river against a rebel tribe, which he routed, and destroyed their Pah (thanked by the Governor and Council). Again commanded the Regt. on the second expedition against the rebel chiefs Heki ad Kawiti; recaptured a hill at the head of the Regt, on the morning of the 1st July 1845 at Ohaiawhi, and led the of the storming parties at the assault on the Pah on that afternoon, and was at the capture of the Pah at Ditiswar on the 11th July, and also at the assault and capture of Kawiti's Pah at Ruapekapeka on the 11th Jan. 1946 (several times named in despatches, &c., Medal).

"Colonel T. S. Brown served the Eastern campaign of 1354, and up to the 26th Feb. 1855, with the 55th Regiment, ine' aling the battles of Alma and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of La Meljude, and Turkish Medal). Servei also on the Bhootan expedition in 1856 (Medal with Clasp),

Sir Thomas Gore Browne commande 1 the 41st Regt, during the whole of the campaign of 1842 in Afghanistan, and was present in the engagements with the enemy on 28th March and 28th April în che Pisheen Valley; in that of Le 20th May near Candahar, 30th Ang, at Gaine, 5th Sept. before Ghaznee, occupation and destruction of that fortress and of Cabool, expedition into Kohistan, storm capture and destruction of Istaliff, and in the various minor afers in uni between the Bolan and the Kayoor Passes (Medal, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, and CB.).

Colonel R. Bruce served with the 23rd Fieillers in the Crimean campaign from the roth Aug. 1855, including the 900s and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Also la the India catapaign in 1857-58, inCing the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, defeat of the Gwalior Contingent at Cawnpore on 6th Dec., capture of eknone, with attack on and occupation of the Iron Bridge from nth to 14th March 15) (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, NA with Clasp).

** Colonel J. H. Baler served with the 57th Regiment in the Eastern campaign of 1854, and was very severely wounded me the trenches before Sebastopol, and again whilst being carried back to the camp (Medal with Clasp, Tvritish M ́-da!).

Ce gei Batler commanded the 2nd Battalion 60th Rifles in the suppression of the matiny in the Shahabad ot let of Bengal in 1853 and was wounded (Medal), Also served throughout the campaign of 1865 in China (Medal with two C'La-p»).

16 Colonel C. K. Bushe commanded the troops during the operations before and bombardment of Canton by the Royal Navy under Sir Michael Seymour during the latter part of 1856 and beginning of 1857; was present at the assault and capture of the city in Dec. 1857 (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp) and of Namtow on 11th Aug. 1852; was employed a portion of the time as a Brigade Major.

18 Colonel Wm. Campbell served with the 71st Light Infantry in the Crimea from the 20th Dec. 1854 to the 8th July 1855, and from the 20th Oct. to roth Nov. 1855; present in the Trenches at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and on the expedition to Kertch (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).

19 Colonel Carmichael served with the 32nd Regt, at the first and second siege operations before Mooltan, and was at the action of Soorj koond; led the Right Column of attack at the storm and capture of the city of Mooltan (wounded) --mentioned in General Fred. Markham's despatch; and was present at the surrender of the fortress, as also at the surrender of the Fort and garrison of Cheniote, and at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Served with the 32nd Regiment against the Hill Tribes on the Peshawur frontier in 1851-52 (Medal with Clasp). Served throughout the Oude campaign in 1858. Commanded the 32nd Light Infantry at the successful attack on the entrenched position at Dohaign, capture of the Fort of Tyrhool, action of Daodpore,-thanked by Sir Alfred Horsford for the able manner in which he commanded the Infantry" affair at Jugdespore, surrender of the Forts of Amether and Shunkerpore. On the 1st Dec. 1858 was appointed by Lord Clyde to the command of a Movable Coburn, which, acting in conjunction with his Lordship's force, was sent in pursuit of the rebel chief Beni Maddoo, to drive him and his troops across the River Gogra--this object the Column successfully accomplished; mentioned in Lord Clyde's despatch as distinguished for the decision and celerity of his movements" (Medal and CB.).

19 Colonel S. A. Cleeve served as Adjutant of the 51st Light Infantry throughout the Burmese war of 1852-304 on board the E.I.C. steam-frigate Ferooz during the naval action and destruction of the enemy's stockades on the Rangoon River; served during the succeeding three days' operations in the vicinity (including the storming of the White House Redoubt), storm and capture of Rangoon, and repulse of the night attack ou Prome (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).

20 Colonel Hon. Ang. M. Cathcart accompanied the 93rd Highlanders to Turkey, and on the embarkation for the Crimea he was appointed Extra Aide de Camp to his uncle Sir George Cathcart, with whom he was present at the battles of Alina, Balaklava, and Inkerman (promoted Brevet Major), where Sir George was killed; rejoined the 23rd, but having been appointed a Deputy Assistant Adjutant General, he was attached to the Light Division, and was present in all the operations in which it was engaged, including both attacks on the Redan and fall of Sebastopol -mentioned in despatches (Medal with four Clasps, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, ami 55 Class of the Medjidie).

20+ Colonel H. S. Cochrane served as Adjutant of the 86th Regt. in the Central India campaign under Singh Rise, and was present at the storm and capture of the Hill Fort of Chandairce (slightly wounded), battle of Betwa (thre horses shot under him), siege storm and capture of the city and fortress of Jhansi, where, under a tremendous re from the fort, he planted the British flag on the top of the Palace; battle and capture of Koonch, various actio before Calpee from 15th to 21st May 1858, battle of Gowlowlee, capture of the city and fortress of Calpee, battle of Morar, battle before and capture of the city and fortress of Gwalior; commanded Irregular Cavalry under Sr Robert Napier in pursuit of Tantia Topee and Feroze Shah in the jungles of Central India (twice mentioned in de spatches, Victoria Cross, Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major). Served as Major of Brigade with the Eusofaye Field Force during the Indian N.W. frontier war of 1863 (Medal with Clasp).

Colonel Cockell served with the 14th Regt, at the siege and capture of Bhurtpore in 1825-26 (Medal).

23 Colonel Cole served in the Crimea with the 17th Regt, from the 7th February 1855, and commanded it at da siege of Sebastopol, and at the assault of the Redan on the 18th June-mentioned in despatches (Medal with Clasp, CB., 5th Class of the Mediidie, and Turkish Medal).

23 Colonel A. S. Cooper served with the 27th Regiment on the North-West Frontier during the Indian mutiny 1857-58 (Medal). Commanded the station of Kussowlie in 1858, when the Barracks were fired by incendiaries, and was mentioned on that occasion as having been "mainly instrumental both by his exertions and example in sare a very large amount of stores and Government buildings." Commanded the 33rd in the Abyssiniau campaign t 1867-68, and led the Regiment (which formed the storming party) at the assault on Magdala (mentioned in des patches of Lord Napier and Sir Charles Staveley, Brevet of Lt. Colonel, Medal, and CB.).

2 Colonel J. H. Cooper served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 7th Fusiliers, including the sortie d 26th Oct., battle of Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol; appointed Aide de Camp to Colonel Yea, and also prest". at the attack on the Quarries on 7th June (wounded 8th June), and assault of the Redan on 18th June (Medal waż two Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).

25 Colonel Cure served with the 55th Regt. in the Crimea from 5th June 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol; commanded the party of the 55th at the attack on the Quarries, and commanded the Regiment from th middle of June to the 8th September, including the attacks of the Redan on the 18th June and 8th Sept.-severe ? wounded (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Media 26 Colonel Deedes served with the 1st Battalion 6oth Rites the campaign of 1857-58 against the mutineers 14 India, including the actions on the Hindun, battle of Budlee ke Serai, and taking the Heights before Delhi, subsequent siege operations (wounded on 12th June), assault and capture of the city, with the final attack on and occupation of the palace. Served as Aide de Camp to Brigadier General Jones during the campaign in Robilens including the actions of Bugawalla and Nugena, relief of Moradabad, action on the Dojura, assault and captars, Bareilly, attack and bombardment of Shahjchanpore, defeat of the rebels and relief of the garrison, capture of the Fort of Bunnai, pursuit of the enemy to the left bank of the Goomtee, destruction of the Fort of Mahomức Served as extra Aide de Camp to Sir A. Wilson at the siege and capture of Lucknow; and as Orderly Officer ** Brigadier Barker in the operations in Oude from 3rd Dec. 1858 to 1st Feb. 1859 (Medal with two Clasps, and Brevet of Major).

27 Colonel D'Arcy served in the Southern Mahratta and Sawunt Warrie campaign in 1845–46. In March organized an expedition against the robber king of Baddeboo, River Gambia, and commanded the Militia Artig at the battle of Saba. In 1866 he led the storming party of 4th W. I. Regt. and Gambia Volunteers to the as and capture of the stockaded town of Tubabecoloug, Lients. Kelly and Jenkins, and four men of the 4th W. I. Reg were killed around him and 6o badly wounded, 300 of the enemy were also killed. For this exploit the Fumpest merchants of Bathurst presented him with a sword of honour value 120 guineas, inscribed on the blade “* devetsé bravery at the stockaded town of Tubabecoloug, River Gambia, and to mark their appreciation of his governm.ey Private Samuel Hodge, 4th W. I. Regt, who followed Col. D'Arcy through the stockade, received the Victoria Cres) Colonel Denny served 36 years in the 71st Regt., and was 14 years in command of either the rst or of Rewrit Battalion. Served under Lord Seaton in the Canadian revolt in 1838-39; was in command of the Advanced Go×4 of the Army on capture of Napierville, and was employed on especial and particular service; placed in command the frontier line, afterwards in command of south side of the St. Lawrence. Landed in the Crimea in Jau, 18536 command of the 71st Regt, and was invalided in June following (Medal with Clasp for Sebastopol, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).

Colonel C. S. Dowson served with the 29th Regiment throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the affair of Ramnuggur, passage of the Chenab, and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with i Clasps). 30 Colonel Donovan served against the Fitcani tribe in 1828 under Colonel Somerset. Commanded an advared post, in the neutral territory, Cape of Good Hope, in 1832 and 1833. Served against the insurgent Boers in 1545. Wa actively employed throughout the whole of the Kaffir war of 1846 and 47 (Medal), and commanded the Advance Guard in forcing the passage of the Fish river Jungle from Fort Peddie to Trompeter's Dritt in May 1846, wh.5 the Troops were engaged with the whole of Pato's tribe for upwards of three hours, previous to the actuin on Gwanga he led as a volunteer a small party into the jungle, where he had a personal rencontre with four arm Kaffers (the chief Zeto and one of his captains being of the party), two of whom he slew single-handed For t above services he received the Brevet rank of Major. Commanded the Troops in the Sovereignty during the Kath war of 1851-53; crossed the Orange River in Feb. 1851 (effecting the passage with guns, wagons, &c., in a temporary boat constructed on the occasion) to assist in the protection of the Albert district, and on the 28th March following, with one Troop Cape M. Rifles, one six-pounder, and a small Burgher Force, defented a large body of Tuzbook. and Basutes, under the chiefs Moocrose, Umhal, and Spepere, leaving upwards of 300 of the enemy dead on the ne 304 Lord Dorchester served with the Coldstream Guards in the Crimean campaign from the 18th Oct. 1854, meladang

Lord Ellenborough served with the oth Lancers in the Sutlej campaign in 1846, including the battle of Sobraon (Medal). Colonel M. R. Eden landed with the 56th Regiment in the Crimea on the 25th August 1855, served at the siege of Sebastopol, and was present at the final assault (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).

Colonel F. C. Evelegh served with the 20th Regt. the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, and was present at the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, both attacks on the Redan, and through the whole of the siege operations before Sebastopol without being absent from a single tour of duty in the Trenches; also at the capture of Kinbourn. Embarked for India with the 20th Regiment, was made a Brigadier, and was present at the following actions and affairs:-Chanda, Umeerpore, Sultanpore, siege of Lucknow. Also commanded an independent force at Mahan, Hussengunge, Mecangunge, Poorwah, Murrowmow, capture of Fort Simree, Berah. Buxarghat, and the Fort of Oomero. Was mentioned about fifteen times in despatches; thanked twice by the Governor General in Council; has the Crimean Medal with four Clasps, order of CB., Legion of Honor, 4th Class of the Medjidie, Turkish Medal, and Indian Medal with Clasp.

Colonel P. P. Faddy commanded the Royal Artillery in the engagement at Port Natal against the revolted Zulu Chicf Foro in 1846. He served in the Kaffir war of 1852 in command of the Royal Artillery, and was named in the official despatches, especially in that relating to the capture of the Kaffir Chief Macomo's stronghold, called "Macomo's Den," on the roth March. Also commanded the Royal Artillery at the battle of Berca against the Basuta Tribes under the Chief Moshesh (horse shot) 20th Dec. 1852, and was again mentioned in despatches, and received the Brevet rank of Major for his services (Medal). Commanded as Brigadier the Column detached from the Saugor Field Force, which defeated the rebel force at Keutce in Bundelcund on 4th March 1859 (mentioned in despatches, Medal). Sir William Fairfax served with the 31st Regiment in the Crimea from 22nd May 1855, and was present at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and attacks of the 18th June and 8th Sept. (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Colonel Fane raised and cominanded the Peshawur Light Horse during the Indian mutiny of 1857-59Colonel W. Faussett served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 44th Regiment, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and attack and occupation of the cemetery on the 18th June; he was Brigade Major in the 3rd Division from 23rd April 1855 (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Major, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).

Colonel Hon. C. J. Fox-Powys was present with the 69th Regiment during the repulse of an incursion of Fenians into Canada in May 1870.

* Colonel E. Goulburn accompanied the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards to Canada in 1838 on the occasion of the Insurrection there. He also served with the 3rd Battalion in the Crimea, subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol, from the 17th November 1855 to the 19th January 1856.

*Colonel Hamilton-Grace served with the 68th Light Infantry in the Crimea from 1st June 1855, and was prespat at the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Sardinian and Turkish Medals). Served also in the New Zeeland war in 1864-66, including the attack on the Gate Pah, and in the West Coast campaign, and present at Kakaramea (Medal).

Colonel J. J. Graham has received the 3rd Class of the Medjidie and the Turkish Medal for services with the Turkish Contingent.

Sir Lumley Graham served with the 43rd Light Infantry in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal). Served the Easetrn campaign of 1854-55, part of the time as Aide de Camp to Major General Eyre, but from May to the 23rd Sept. 1855 With the 41st Regiment, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol; was severely nded 29th August 1855, occasioning amputation of the right arm (Medal with three Clasps, Brevets of Major Li Lt.Colonel, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal)."

Colonel Gregory served in the American war in 1814 and 15, and commanded a gunboat belonging to the Floa under Commander Owen on Lake Ontario, for which he received the thanks of the Naval Commander in Chief. Colonel Leonard Griffiths served in the Crimeau campaign from November :854, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and in the Trenches with the siege train at the bombardments of 9th April and 6th and 17th June Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal),

Colonel E. St. J. Griffiths served in the Hazara campaign in 1868, including the expedition against the thes on the Black Mountain (Medal with Clasp).

Sir Charles Hamilton commanded the 1st Battalion Scots Fusilier Guards at the battle of Alma, and had his Borse shot under him (Medal with Clasps, and Turkish Medal).

For

Clonel R. W. Harley served with the expeditionary force under Major Conran employed against the hostile Indians Yucatan in April and May 1861; also in suppression of the disturbances in the Northern district. Commanded the Western Division of the Troops and native Allies on the Gold Coast against the Forces of the King of Ashantee in when the Protectorate was invaded. Also defended Lower Combo, Gambia, in Feb. 1864 in conjunction with Commodore Wilmot against the hostile natives of Goongom. In June 1864 commanded an expeditionary force 180 miles up the River Gambia; bombarded and destroyed the fortified positions of the hostile natives at Junca Cunda and Canni Canni Tenda and restored peace in the country after two years of war and bloodshed,-for this service he received the thanks of the Colonial Government, and the Brevet of Lt.Colonel. Served as Brigadier General in comand of the expeditionary force employed against the hostile Indians of Yucatan in Feb. and March 1867; bomapled and destroyed four Indian towns including San Pedro the principal stronghold, and recovered the Northern Western districts of British Honduras which had been temporarily in the hands of the invading Indians. the service he received the thanks of the Governor in Chief and those of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, the approbation of the Major General commanding the Forces and of his Royal Highness the Commander in Chief, and CB. Colonel R. P. Harrison served in the 37th Regiment during the rebellion in Ceylon in 1848. Also in India during the matuny of 1857-58, including the night attack on Arrah, and proceeded with Brigadier Douglas' Column in command of the Left Wing 37th Regt, and was present in several actions (mentioned in despatches, and Medal). Colonel Leith Hay served in Canada during the rebellion, and was in the affair at Prescott. Served the Eastern ampugu of 1854 up to 8th February 1855 and again from 13th August 1855, including the battles of Alma and Baklava, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and commanded the 93rd Highlanders at the assault on the 8th September Melal with three Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). ComLandel the 93rd Highlanders at the relief of Lucknow 14th to 25th November 1857, defeat of the Gwalior Continthat at Cawnpore on 6th December and pursuit to Seraighat, siege and capture of Lucknow; commanded the Highland Brigade at the battle of Bareilly, and served in the Oude campaign in 1858-59, including the actions of Piron and Russoulpore, and evacuation of the Fort of Mittoula (Brevet of Colonel, Medal with Clasp, and CB.), Sir Stephen Hill commanded an expedition 80 miles up the Gambia in 1849; stormed and destroyed the fortified town of Bambacoo, 6th May; attacked and partially destroyed the fortified town of Keenung, 7th May; action and defeat of the enemy on the plains of Quenella. He also commanded a Detachment of the 2nd and 3rd West India Rts in the combined attack of the British and French naval and land force under Commodore Fanshawe in the streek and total defeat of pirates at the Island of Basis, Jeba River, Western Africa, 12th Dec. 1849. The thanks of Be Lords of the Admiralty were conveyed to himself and Detachment, and he received the Brevet rank of Major. * Colonel F. G. Hibbert served with the 91st Regt. in the Kathir war of 1851-53, and was wounded in action at Waterkloof on 8th March 1852 (Medal).

Colonel A. Hunt served with the 79th Highlanders in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 up to the 24th of ptember 1855, including the battle of Alma, siege and fall of Sebastopol, assaults of the 18th June and September, and expedition to Kertch and Yenikale (Medal with two Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).

*Colonel J. M'Donnell served throughout the Kaffir war of 1846-47 (Medal), during which he commanded seve luccessful skirmishing parties. Led the successful attack under Sir George Berkeley against a large body of Kaffir posted in one of their strongest positions at the Sohoto Mountain, where they treacheronsly murdered Major Baker and four other officers two days previously. Was present in the action with and defeat of the insurgent Boer at Boem Plaats 29th Aug. 1848, and on Major Armstrong being severely wounded he commanded the Ca M. Riflemen during the latter part of the engagement.

Colonel Lowe served with the 16th Lancers at the siege of Bhurtpore in 1825-26, and was wounded (Medal).

Lot any served with the 31st Regt, in the Crimean campaign from the 22nd Moeds the end of June 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and attack of the 18th Jane (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Mehu). 6 Colonel M'Kinstry served with the 17th Regiment in the Crimea from the 17th Dec. 1854 to thy rith Jabs 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on the 18th June-mentioned in despatches (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).

66 Colonel C. E. Mausfield served as Aide de Camp to S.r Colin Campbell throughout the Eastern cimption of 1954-55, including the battles of Alma and Balaklava, siege and fall of Sebastopol (mentioned in despatches, Mebl with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Medals). Served in the Indian mutiny campaigns Aide de Camp to Sư William Mansfield, and was present in the actions of the 25th 27th and 28th Nov. under General Windham in the vicinity of Cawnpore, and at the battle thereof on the 6th Dec. 1857, at which he was severely wounded (meationed in despatches, Brevet of Major, and Medal).

67 Sir Francis Edmund Macnaghton served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 8th Hussars, including the battles of Alma, isalaklava, and Inkerman, affairs of Bulganak and M'Kenzie's Farm, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Served in Rajpootana and Central India in 1858-59, and was present at the capture of Kotah, reoccupation of Chundaree, battle of Kotah ke Serai, capture of Gwalior, actious of Koondrye (horse wounded) and Boordah (Meda) with Clasp).

6 Colonel T. W. Marten served with the Royal Fusiliers at the siege of Sebastopol from 17th June 1855, including the assaults of the Redan on the 13th June and 8th Sept., on which last occasion he succeeded to the command of the Regiment, led it across the Ditch of that work, and subsequently brought it ont of action-mentioned despatches (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medai). Served in the Indian N.W. Frontier war of 1863 with the Eusafzye Field Force, present at the defence of the Sungahs at the Umbeyla Pass, and commanded the Right Wing 7th Fusiliers at the attack on and storming of the Conical Hill and destruction of Lalloo on 15th December, ard also in the action at Umbeyla and destruction or the village at the foot of the Bonair Pass on the 16th December, which ended in the complete rout of the enemy and the submission of the hill tribes on the 17th December(Melal with Clasp).

69 Colonel F. C. Maude commanded the Royal Artillery throughout the operations with General Havelock's Column in 1857, including the defeat of the rebels at Futtehpore, actions of Aoung, Pandoo Nuidee, Cawnpore, Oon 40, Buseerutgunge, Mungarwar, relief and defence of the Residency of Lucknow; with Outram's Foreg 21 the Alumbagh from Jan. to March 1858; also at the siego and capture of Lucknow (repeatedly mentioned in despatches, Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, CB., Victoria Cross, Medal with Clasps, and a year's service. 71 Colonel J. Miller volunteered and commanded the combined force (English and Danish)daring the insurrection at Tortola, W.I., in August 1853. On his arrival martial law was proclaimed, and enforced for a period of 5% weeks, the natives, amounting to 7,000, having completely destroyed the town, and threatened the lives of the European inhabitants, who fled for refuge to St. Thomas. Ho suppressed the rebellion, and restored the ishima state of order and tranquillity, and after re-establishing civil authority, received the thanks of the President anu Council, and was most favourably reported to the Colonial Office.

Colonel Monkland served with the 74th Highlanders in the Kaffir war in 1851 (Medal).

73 Colonel Muter served in the Punjaub campaign in 1843 49, including the siege and capture of Mooltan, battlef Goojerat, pursuit and surrender of Shero Singh, ocempation of Attock and Peshawar (Medal with two ClipKE, Served the campaign of 1857-58 against the mutineers in India; commanded a Wing of both Ritles at Mert suppressing insurgent villagers from 10th May to 26th Aug.; present with the 1st Battalion from 6th Seat a De siege of Delhi, assault and capture of the city on 14th Sept. with the final attack on and occupation of the Palier 20th Sept.-succeeded to the command of the attacking Column on Kishingunge on 14th Sept. on the fall of Myer Reid (Brevet of Major). Served as D. A. Adjutant General to the Roorkee Find Force under Brigadier Jones da ing the campaign in Rohilcund, including the actions of Bugawalla and Nugena, relief of Moradabad, action on the Dojura, assault and capture of Bareilly, attack and bombardment of Shahjehanpor, defeat of the rebels and red of the garrison, capture of the Fort of Bunnai, pursuit of the enemy to the left bank of the Goontec, and destrat in of the Fort of Mahomdee (Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Lt.Colone!). Was on board the troop-ship Esters Monarch when she blew up and was burnt on 3rd June 1859.

74 Colonel J. L. W. Nun served with the Both Regiment in the Burmese war of 1852, and was presert of the capture of Martaban, operations before Rangoon on the 12th 13th and 14th April, and capture of the great that Pagoda (with the advanced storming party), and capture of Prome (Medal with Clap for Pern). Served in the campaign in Oude in 1858-59, and present at the capture of Simree Fort, Bera, Doonde ikeira (Medal).

75 Colonel Ouvry served the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 with the 3rd Light Dragoons, and commanded a Squadron at the affair of Ramnuggur (horse shot under him); the passage of the Chenab, action of Sadoolapore, 971 battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Commanded 9th Lancers before Delhi in 1857 unt. appointed Aide de Camp to Sir A. Wilson, whom he attended during the assault (received thanks of Governor General in Council, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, and CB.). After the fall of Delhi commanded the Cavalry Brigde of 15 Movable Column, including actious at Bolundshur, Allyghur, and battle of Agra. Cominnnded the Fores at the action of Kanoj, and the Cavalry at the relief of Lucknow under Sir Colin Campbell (thanks of Governor Genera”) Conncil, Medal with two Clasps).

76 Colonel C. D. Pedder served with the 39th Regt. in the Crimean campaign from the 31st Dec. 1854 to the noth dry 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on the 16th June (Medal with Clasp, and Tuki Medal).

Colonel H. De R Pigott served with the 83rd Regiment in the Indian mutiny campaign, and was prosent a the reduction of the Fort of Arrah is Jamury 1858, siege of Kotah and its capture by assault, aflair at Sangaste and defeat of the Gwalior rebels at K taris (Medal).

78 Colonel Pratt served with the 82nd Regiment at the siege and capture of Copenhagen in 1807; în Portugalas! Spain in 1808 09, including the battles of Roleia and Vimiera, retreat to and battle of Corunna (War Me ial with three Clasps). At Walcheren in 1809, and was severely wounded at the investment of Flushing, In 1813 he w appointed to the Quarter Master General's Staff of the Army on the eastern coast of Spain, and served with a p tion of that Army in Italy and in the South of France until the close of the war in 1814.

79 Colonel J. A. Price served in the Cranean campaign from Dec. 1854, including the siege and fall of Solasta of (wounded), in the Trenches with the siege train, and at the bombardments of 9th April, 6th and 175à June (M×2) with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honour, and Turkish Medal).

80 Colonel Reynardson served with the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards in the Eastern campaign of 1854, includ ing the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and commanded the Grenadier Guards at Inkerman (horse shot), sicge of ze bastopol (Medal with four Clasps, CB., and Turkish Medal).

Colonel G. Rhodes served the campaign of 1853 and the spring campaign of 1854 on the Danube as Aide qe fum, to the Spanish General Prim, was present at the battle of Oltenitza. Subsequently was attached to Selim Itchi▾ Staff and accompanied the Turkish Irregular Cavalry in three successful sorties from the Quarantine Station, pre- » in the Tete de Pont when the Russians unsuccessfully attacked and bombarded that position, retiring with less, waa also at the retreat of the Russians from Giergevo and Slobodsia in 1854. For the above-inent oned services. ht 18 received the Spanish Order of Isabel the Catholic, also the Turkish Order of the Medjidie 4th Class, with a swod Honor from the Sultan. Served the campaign of 1854 on the Staff of the Army in the Crimes, and was pr. und s the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medad, 81 Colonel J. P. Robertson served in the 31st Regt. throughout the Sutlej campaign of 1845 46, including thi battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshah, Buddiwal, Aliwal, and Sobraon (Medal and three Clasps). Served in toaters from 22nd May 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and attacks on 18th June and 8: Sent. (5:4) with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Commanded the Military Train, acting as Cavalry, in the Indian en ning 1857-58, daily engaged with the enemy at the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, and was in command at Dukes during the enemy's grand attack on 22nd Nov.; afterwards served with the force in occupation of the Alambazi under Outram from Nov. 1857 until March 1858, including actions of the 3rd Dec., 12th and 16th Jan, 15th vrst and 25ch Feb., and many other minor affairs; commanded the small Force which repulsed the enemy's Cavalry strong, in their attack of the Camp on the 16th March 1853; took part in the operations ending in the fi Lucknow; afterwards commanded the Cavalry of Lagard's Field Force, and was present at the relief of Atomiz capture of Juzcespore, and almost daily engaged with Omer Singh's Forec between 9th May analyti
