1st Battalion embarked for India, 10 January 1871. 2nd Battalion returned from Nova Scotia, 10 January 1871. Sir David Russell commanded the 5th Brigade at the second relief of Lucknow-severely wounded, and partalarly mentioned in despatches as having much distinguished himself (CB.); commanded 1st Brigade under Caram at the repulse of several attacks on the Alumbagh; at the fall of Lucknow he commanded 2nd Brigade ch stormed the Imaumbarra and captured the Kaiserbagh (Medal with Clasp).

General Phillips served in the 43rd Light Infantry throughout the Kaffir war of 1851-53; commanded the Regiat the Berea and in several skirmishes (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, and Medal). Colonel Warren was engaged in the operations at Taranaki in 1861 (Medal).

La Colonel Byam served with the 65th Regiment in the New Zealand war in 1863-65 (Medal).

Colonel Wolseley served with the 84th Regiment during the latter part of the Indian mutiny, and was aged in all the minor affairs in the Shahabad district under Sir John Douglas (Medal). L&Colonel Gordon served throughout the Ashanti War of 1873-74. Landed at the Gold Coast on the 6th July 1873. Tas made Commandant of Houssas and Adjutant of Armed Police. Organized scouting parties, patrols, and aissances to discover the positions of the enemy. Made the first rough map of the neighbourhood. Selected epositions and constructed the important redoubts of Napoleon and Abbaye covering Cape Coast and Elmina vely. Commenced the Cape Coast-Coomassie road, and had made it practicable for Artillery as far as aquah by Sir Garnet Wolseley's arrival. Was now placed on the list of special service officers and commanded Leard of the working party at the head of the road till the middle of October, when he was placed in command the Houssas. Commanded the Houssas at the repulse of the Ashanti Army at Abrakrampa during the 5th and November, and at the reconnaissance in force of the 8th November. Commanded the Houssa Company of Bell's Regiment at the capture and destruction of Adubiassie, battle of Amoaful, capture and destruction of Bah, the advanced guard engagement of Jarbinbah (slightly wounded), the skirmishes and ambuscade affairs tween Adwabin and the river Ordah, the battle of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie. Was promoted Captain in th on the 10th December 1873 from Lieutenant and Adjutant 98th Regiment "in recognition of his valuable vices with the Houssas and other forces under his orders whilst operating against the Ashantis" (several times oned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).

Major Thacker served in the New Zealand war of 1863-66 (Medal).

Captain Boulger served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58; joined Havelock's force on its first g the field at Allahabad in June 1857, and was in the advanced party which left Cawnpore on the 30th June er Major Reynold, and engaged in many skirmishes while destroying all disaffected villages between Allahabad Futtehpore, and while keeping communications open with the river party; afterwards present at the actions Fatehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore, Oonao, Buseerut Gunge (both actions), Boorbeeake Chowkee, ar, Mungarwar, and Alumbaugh, and was in the storming party which crossed the bridge in the first relief of Low, and shot the gunner in the act of firing a 68-pounder loaded with grape, canister, stones, glass, &c., and Was the first man to force through the masked battery in front, for which he was mentioned in General orders; Pont with the Grenadier company of 50 men at the storming of the jail, from which the dead bodies of 380 7 were afterwards removed; was a volunteer with the storming party at 3 a.m., 29th September, to blow up emy's magazine, destroy their mines, and burst 4 mortars and 13 guns facing the Residency-wounded through eft thigh and right hand with loss of middle finger; present throughout the subsequent defence of the Residency And storming of the Hirn Kanah-wounded (Victoria Cross, Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).

General Lewis served with the Grenadier Guards in the Crimea from the 13th Aug. 1855; commanded ons of the Army in the Trenches, and the Grenadier Guards at the taking of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Trish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).

La Colonel Simpson served with the Force under Brigadier General Chamberlain in 1859-60 against the Cabool Wazeerees, and was present at the capture and burning of Maidanee (Medal with Clasp). Served with the awar Division during the Sepoy Mutiny in 1858.

Captain Carey served with the expeditionary force under Brigadier General Harley in British Honduras in rary and March 1867 (mentioned in despatches).

2 Sir John Jarvis Bisset served 20 Nov. 75 through the Kaffir war of 1835-36, as 20 Nov. 75 a volunteer, and as Ensign and Lien26 Aug. 76 tenant in a Battalion of Native Infantry (Medal). He was Field Adjutant to a division of troops proceeding to Colesberg in Dec.1842 to suppress a rebellion of the Boers. He served 79 through the Kaffir war of 1846-47, at 79 the commencement of which he was 79 appointed Deputy Assist. Qr. Mr Gen. 79 Was present at the battle of the 79 Gwanga, and all the minor affairs 79 with the Kaffirs,and was twice slightly 79 wounded. He was repeatedly thanked in general orders by successive Gene80 Brevet of Major for his services ral Officers, and finally received the 81 during the campaign. At the close of the war he was appointed Brigade Major of British Kaffraria. On the breaking out of the war in 1850 be was severely wounded in the first en gagement with the enemy at the Boomah Pass in the Amatola Mountains (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal). Was also present in the operations subsequent to June 1852.

Colonel). Served in the Eastern campaign of 1854, and was present (attached to the Staff) at the battle of Balaklava and Inkerman, and was also present with the Head Quarter Staff as an amateur at the battle of the Alma, the affairs of Bulganac and M'Kenzie's Farm, and capture of Balaklava (Medal with four Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidic, and Turkish Medal). He was on Field Service with a Madras Column during the Indian Mutiny in 1857.

2 General Dalrymple served in the Eastern campaign of 1854 up to 8th November, including the battles of Alma (wounded) and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps. 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Commanded the 2nd Battalion Scots Fusilier Guards on the expedition through New Brunswick after the Trent affair in the winter of 1861-62.

3 Colonel Lambton landed in the Crimea in Sept. 1855, and served with the 71st Highlanders in the Trenches at the siege of Sebastopol, and was present at its fall (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Central India campaign in 1858-59, and was present at the taking of Fort Nahargah (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major).

5 Lt.Colonel Straghan served with the 74th Highlanders in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58, and was present at the storm and capture of Shorapore (Medal).

7 Lt.Colonel Allen served with the 79th Highlanders in the Crimea from the 16th August 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol and assault of the 8th September (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, including the siege and capture of Lucknow, attack on the Fort of Rooyah, actions of Allygunge, Bareilly, and Shahjehanpore, capture of Forts Bunniar and Mahomdie, passage of the Gogra at Fyzabad, capture of Rampore Kussia, and subsequent operations in Oude across the Gogra and Raptee rivers (Medal with Clasp).

10 Major Harvey was attached by the Government to the service of the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded in the Franco-German war of 1870-71, and was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit. He has also been awarded the Silver Medal of the Royal Humane Society for saving two lives from drowningwhen on duty as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General disembarking the 4th Regiment from H.M.S. Tamar at Queenstown on the night of the 4th August 1874. Served in the operations against Sekukuni in 1878 as Staff Officer for the Transvaal. Served in the Zulu war of 1879 as Staff Officer of No. 5 Column, and afterwards as Brigade Major 1st Brigade, and Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General in the 1st Division (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp). Major Wilson served with the 71st Highland Light Infantry throughout the campaign of 1863 against the Boneyrs and other hill tribes on the N.W. Frontier of India. Commanded the Sharpshooters from the 11th November to the 1st December, from which latter date till the end of the campaign he acted as Adjutant of the Regiment (Medal with Clasp). 12 Captain Ramsay served with the 67th Regiment in the Afghan war in 1878-79 (Medal).

Lord William Paulet served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as Assistant Adjutant General to the Cavalry Division, including the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, CB, Officer of the Legion of Honor, Commander 1st Class St. Maurice and St. Lazarus, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).

$ Lt.Colonel Tucker served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 68th Light Infantry, including the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, Knight of the Legion o Honor, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the New Zealand war in 1864-66, and was present at the engagement at Te Ranga (mentioned in despatches, Medal).

Lt.Colonel Shaw served with the 60th Rifles in the Indian campaign in 1858, and acted as Field Adjutant of Colonel Walter's Column employed against the rebels in Shahabad (mentioned in despatches, Medal). Also throughout the campaign of 1860 in China (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasps).

5 Major Covey served in the New Zealand war in 1864-66 as Adjutant of the 68th Light Infantry and as Field Adjutant of Tauranga Field Force, and was present at the attack on Gate Pah (mentioned in despatches) and engagement at Te Ranga (mentioned in despatches, Medal).

Major Crawford served with the 2nd Queen's Royals throughout the campaign of 1860 in North China, including the actions of Sinho, taking of Tangku, actions of the 18th and 21st September, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).

Major Woodward served with the 68th Light Infantry in the New Zealand war in 1864-66 (Medal).

11 Major Peyton served with the 10th Regiment in the Expedition into the Native State of Sunghie Ujong. Malay Peninsula, in 1874, and was present at the attack and capture of the Kapayan Stockades. Also served during the Perak Expedition of 1875-76 during the operations in the Native States of Sunghie Ujong, Sri Mananti, and Terrachee, and was present at the action of Paroa (mentioned in despatches for gallant conduct, and promoted in recognition of his services from Lieutenant 10th Regt. to Captain 106th Regt., Medal with Clasp). 13 Major S. B. Triphook served in New Zealand during active operations in 1864-66 (Medal).
