49. And forthwith he came to Jesus and said, Hail, master! and kissed him

50. And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come?

43.

And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude, with swords and staves, from the chief Priests and the scribes and the Elders.

44. And he that betrayed him, and given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he, take him and lead him away safely.

45. And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, Master, and kissed him.

47. And while he yet spake, behold

a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve,

went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

48. But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

2. And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus also ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.

3. Judas then, having received a band of men, and officers of the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns, and torches and weapons.

4. Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth and said unto them, said unto them, Whom seek ye?

5. They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also which betrayed him, stood with them.

6. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. 7. Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? and they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

8. Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: If therefore ye seek me, let these go their

way.

high Priest, and he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.

55. And the chief Priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus, to put him to death,

and found none.

56. For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

57. And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

58. We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands; and within three days I will build another made without hands.

59. But neither so did their witness agree together.

60. And the high Priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? What is it which these witness against thee?

61. But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high Priest asked him, and said unto him,

Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

62. And Jesus said, I am.

And ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds

of heaven.

Mk. XIV. 62.

63. Then the high Priest rent his clothes, and saith,

What need we any further witnesses?

64. Ye have heard the blasphemy :

What think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

69. Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

70. Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

71. And they said, What need we any further witness? For we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

and brought in Peter. Continued P. 166.

From P. 166. 19. The high Priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.

20. Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world: I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

21. Why askest thou me? Ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them. Behold, they know what I said.

22. And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by, struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high Priest so?

23. Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me ?

ST. MATTHEW, XXVII.

CHAP. XXVII,

1. When the morning was come, all the chief Priests and Elders of the people took counsel against Jesus,

to put him to death.

2. And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the Governor.

3. Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself; and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief Priests and Elders,

4. Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? See thou to that.

5. And he cast down the thirty

6. And the chief Priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

7. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.

8. Wherefore that field was called, the field of blood, unto this day.

9. Then was fulfilled that which

was spoken by Jeremy the Zach. XI. 12, 18. Prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued ; whom they of the children of Israel did value;

10. And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

11. And Jesus stood before the Governor.

ST. JOHN, XVIIÍ.

28. Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment. And it was early. And they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled: but that they might eat the passover.
