THE verses, of which this little book is composed, have been, as is indicated in the title page, selected by an invalid. In the summer of 1850, a bright, healthy girl, with all a girl's hopes and happy dreams, and enthusiastic expectations of the future, was smitten with illness-an illness which has continued with almost unbroken severity until this present year (1870). At first it was not supposed that anything incurable had befallen her, but as months and years rolled on, and the disease became more fully developed, hope well-nigh died in the hearts of those who watched her.
